This 5-day programme focuses on how to make the yoga teachings available to everyone, regardless of their level of physical ability.

 

Learn how to create Integrated Accessible Yoga classes where all students can practice together, including sample Accessible Yoga classes, chair yoga classes, and even bed yoga classes. Look at ways of bringing the yoga teachings and meditation into your classes. Learn how to empower people with disabilities by giving them a deep understanding of the yoga teachings. Review common medical conditions so that you have a basic understanding of these issues.

 

Curriculum

  • Adapted Asanas
  • Variations of the most important asanas
  • Techniques for creating integrated Accessible Yoga classes
  • Sample Accessible Yoga classes, either on the floor, in a chair, or in a bed

 

Yoga Anatomy and Physiology

  • Overview of common medical conditions as diabetes, arthritis, respiratory diseases, cancer, HIV/AIDS, heart disease and more
  • A review of some of the major impacts of aging on all the systems of the body

 

Yoga Psychology

  • How to empower people with disabilities by giving them a deep understanding of the Yoga teachings. Includes study of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and The Bhagavad Gita

 

Pranayama and Meditation

  • How to make the subtle practices available for all students, regardless of ability

 

Community

  • How to build a strong community among Yoga students to support the transformational process of Yoga

 

Also deepen your own practice of asanas, pranayama and meditation by joining the ashram schedule, outside the hours of Accessible Yoga Training.

 

Certificate

Students receive a certificate recognised by the Yoga Alliance that will enable yoga teachers and health professionals to teach yoga to students with disabilities.

Dr. Lakshmi Sutter

Lakshmi Sutter, Ph.D., comes from the USA. She has practiced movement for much of her life. She is a trainer of Integral Hatha Yoga teachers and enthusiastically shares her fascination with the human body during basic anatomy workshops. Her current work is developing the Integral Yoga Therapeutic Yoga certification program. Lakshmi’s supportive instruction is suitable for a wide range of abilities, with different classes ranging from gentle and restorative to energetic and challenging.

  • 6 – 7:30 am Morning meditation, mantra chanting, talk
  • 8 – 9:45 am Course workshop
  • 10 am Vegetarian brunch
  • 12 – 3 pm Course workshop
  • 4 – 5:45 pm Asana and pranayama class

Accommodation and meals

Accommodation and meals are in the non-smoking eco-hotel serving wholesfood organic vegetarian meals.

All guest rooms have wooden floors and furniture, health mattresses, shower, toilet, hairdryer, telephone and radio. Most rooms have a balcony.

What you will need for your stay

A meditation pillow for the morning and evening meditation sessions is recommended. A meditation shawl is also advantageous.

To practice the yoga poses you will need a non-slip yoga mat or wool mat. You will need a blanket to cover yourself at the end of the yoga class during the so-called final relaxation.

Pillows, shawls, blankets, mats and much more can be purchased in our online shop or in our boutique after arrival.

For your stay you should bring comfortable clothing, slippers, walking shoes, rain gear, torch (flashlight), bathing suit and towels. Eyeglass wearers should bring a hard case for safe storage during the yoga classes.
