Principles of Asana Alignment

With Steven Weiss (USA), holistic chiropractor and yoga therapist

With certificate of participation for 48 training units (45 min each)

All asana, regardless of their outer appearance, use the same, single set of actions. The actions are determined by the body’s anatomy, natural design, and mechanics. Asana alignment is based on the inner actions of the body, not the outer form. The body is not forced to fit the asana; instead, the asana fits the body.

The following topics will be explained with power point presentations and specific exercises and then applied in various asanas according to the Sivananda practice system:

  • Sitting well – pelvis and lower back
  • Align the central axis
  • Shoulder alignment
  • Integrative alignment of the pelvis
  • Alignment of the feet
  • Spinal curves: mobility versus stability
  • Alignment of legs and feet
  • Flexibility of structural tissues
  • Ligament function
