Swami Vishnudevananda was the first yoga master in the West to develop a training programme for yoga teachers. In 1969, he taught the first Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Course (TTC) in Canada, continuing the training programmes offered by the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy of the Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh, India. Since then, over 40,000 certified yoga teachers have completed the Teachers’ Training Course, with another 1,000 graduates each year.
The Yoga Teachers' Training Course is part of his vision of universal peace: The more people experience peace within, the more this peace will manifest in outward action. In this way, a glow of peace envelops the world: Living and learning together through yoga.
The goal of this training programme is to produce qualified and inspiring yoga teachers who are able to draw on their own practice and personal discipline in imparting the yoga experience to others.
Swami Vishnudevananda retained India’s traditional Gurukula teaching system in which students and teachers live together in an ashram (centre for yoga and meditation).
The yoga teachers’ training course is directed by Yoga Acharyas, who were trained personally by Swami Vishnudevananda.
Through the direct contact with experienced teachers, the student’s day-to-day life during the course is transformed into a learning experience. Students advance both physically and mentally and enjoy a comprehensive yoga experience, which they can later transmit to their own students. In efforts to create the most favourable conditions possible, this training is offered as an intensive course in an ashram.
Upon successful completion of the Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Course, the yoga teacher receives a yoga certificate confirming that they have sufficient knowledge and practical experience to teach Hatha Yoga (asanas, pranayama and relaxation) to beginners and intermediate yoga students.
After successful completion of the training course, the participants receive the internationally recognised certificate of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres.
Certified by the worldwide Yoga Alliance for the 200 hours standard for Registered Yoga Schools (RYS).
Fees include examination fee, TTC manual, two yoga pants, two t-shirts.
All rates include VAT.

The course is international and taught in English. Some lectures may be taught in German.
Any lectures in German or German-speaking guest speakers will be translated simultaneously into English using a wireless translation system and headphones.
The rental fee for the radio receiver is 30 €.
You can bring your own headset with normal disc man jack or buy one for 10 € at the Yoga Retreat House.

Day off: There is one lecture-free day per week
On these days only morning and evening meditation take place (attendance mandatory), the asana classes at 8 am and 4 pm are optional.
The practice and especially the teaching of yoga demand a high degree of self-discipline and purity. You do not have to provide proof of courses which have been taken before.
It is nevertheless recommended that students take yoga classes and group meditation in a Sivananda Yoga Centre.

Yoga Teachers' Training Prep Courses
For those considering doing the Teachers’ Training Course, the TTC Prep course will aid you in making your decision and preparing for the course. It covers:

Light, nutritious and freshly prepared meals are an important foundation for your yoga practice.
Hotel Pointner prepares two yogic-vegetarian meals a day following the Sivananda Retreat House's guidelines. This means that the yogic-vegetarian meals contain no eggs, garlic, onions, mushrooms, vinegar, radishes, leeks, etc.

The ingredients are all organically grown (subject to routine inspection by Austria Bio Garantie, Austria's leading inspection body).
After the morning yoga class, brunch features a variety of warm and cold dishes (daily: pulses, grains, vegetables, salads, homemade bread with butter as well as homemade jams, cheese and fruit). Pure oils and dairy products from the finest organic farms in Tyrol are used.
After the evening yoga class, the yogic-vegetarian menu includes soup, a main dish and dessert.
The flour for the bread, biscuits and cake is ground daily using an Eastern Tyrolean grain mill and whole grains.
Tea and water are available throughout the day free of charge.
Vegan and gluten-free dishes are prepared on request. Any potential food allergens are labelled.
Please refrain from drinking coffee and black tea, as they are not beneficial for the yoga practice.
